a. School uniform suppliers: Christy reported that the current uniform vendor agreed to provide patches to parents who bring in shirts purchased elsewhere. We will provide the current vendor with a list of approved color codes etc. The Board asked Christy to move forward with finding additional suppliers for school uniforms in order to provide options to parents. All uniform policies and handbooks will be updated to keep current with any changes.
- Principles Report:
- Hired a new counselor that will be at the school three days a week.
- Met with Marietta City social workers
- Carpool has been going very well. Marietta Police assisted early on. School would like to maintain that relationship for safety training, etc. with students.
- Hired a teacher to replace Ms. Craig. She is a math specialist and will start September 4th.
- Met with a candidate for Special Needs Parapro.
- Finished GKAP testing for Kindergarten.
- Talked to 4th and 5th graders about a student ambassador program.
- School may piggyback an open house with the upcoming Project CHILD open house for some additional recruiting/marketing.
- The audit will begin on 8/28/07.
- Current enrollment is 215.
- Future grades – vote to table application for one year: Motion was made by Sarah Bullington to postpone the application to the City School Board for grades higher than 5th on the grounds that we needed more time to establish a positive track record with the City Board. Jim Lauder seconded the motion and it was approved by the three board members present.
- Vote to approve recommended principle: Jim Lauder made a motion to approve Christy Tureta as the new principal of Marietta Charter School. Sarah Bullington seconded the motion and it was approved by the three board members present.
